Switzerland (and France) 🇳🇱 🇩🇪 🇨🇭 🇫🇷

Sat, 02/07/2022 - 4:27am by ani

We traveled to Basel, touching four countries in one day (Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, and then just over the border in France, where our apartment was). The trains were packed.

Day Trip to Lucerne (and the Swiss Alps)

We took a day trip to Lucerne (and the Swiss Alps) as a belated Father's Day gift / adventure. I thought it was cool when we went over a ledge in our gondola and we were suddenly 50 feet above the ground! At the top we were so high that we could see snow on one of the other mountains!

Back in Basel

Back in Basel we explored some beautiful brown sandstone cloisters, floated down the Rhine river, and floated across in a boat connected to a cable and pulled across by the current.

Augusta Raurica

BY REUBEN

We took a bit of a detour to visit Augusta Raurica, ancient Roman ruins in Switzerland, because we couldn't visit Greece, as an early birthday present to me(Reuben). They had two amphitheaters, ancient sewers, Roman baths, and a temple to the gods and goddesses! In the museum, we learned about an early form of banking: keeping silver silverware  hidden and in hard times melting them down into coins.
