We headed towards Den Haag while mom finished some final meetings related to her fellowship, after a few more weeks in Hoogersmilde.
Escher in Het Paleis
We went to see the MC Escher museum as our first outing.
MC Escher was an artist who did mostly prints(woodcuts, linocuts, and lithographs). He is famous for his tesselations, optical illusions, and impossibilities.
Maurithuis
The morning after the MC Escher museum, we went to the Maurithuis. We saw the Girl with a Pearl Earring! We also saw some grosser paintings, like the Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tolp. It is a painting of a dead body being dissected. The body originally had just one hand(being a twice convicted criminal, first cutting off his hand, then killing him) but Remembrant added another later on. No one knows why!
Scheveningen
We went to the beach after a burger lunch, and the waves were around 5 feet high! We got so cold that we had to rub ourselves with sand to get warm.
